CANADA SEVENS COMMUNITY RUGBY ACTIVATIONS

The community rugby activations are designed to provide unique opportunities for existing and new rugby players, coaches and match officials to experience rugby for the first time or in an exciting new way. The activations are stand-alone annual events in advance of the 7s tournaments and are designed to provide a legacy in the community by connecting to local rugby organizations. The aim is to create a buzz around the sport and ensure that anyone who wishes to participate, or continue to participate in rugby, has the opportunity to do so.

Community Visit Program

The purpose of the Community Visit Program is to provide a meaningful connection between the HSBC Canada Sevens event and the rugby community of Vancouver. The intended outcome is to showcase rugby in the local community and attract youth to play rugby in schools, clubs and communities through multiple try rugby events. Rugby Canada and BC Rugby work together to arrange connections with the existing and future rugby community by bringing incoming international 7s teams to schools and community groups.

HSBC ROOKIE RUGBY FESTIVAL

HSBC Rookie Rugby Festival provides an opportunity for youth to try rugby for the first time and for existing players to run alongside Canada’s national team players. The festival is intended to showcase rugby in the local community and attract new youth to the game through a high-quality rugby experience. Rugby Canada ambassadors are involved at various stations delivering different Rookie Rugby games and activities. At the end of the festival, participants will have the opportunity to have a meet and greet with players and are entered in a drew for the chance to win various prizes.

HSBC ON FIELD ACTIVATION

The HSBC Rookie Rugby on field activation promotes the Rookie Rugby program, local rugby clubs and provides youth a chance to play rugby on the field inside BC Place. The HSBC Rookie Rugby Activation will see existing rugby players from local Vancouver rugby clubs playing 4, 20 vs 20 mini matches during the HSBC Canada Sevens event. Rugby Canada ambassadors and local club volunteers are situated on each pitch to ensure the game flows and youth are having fun. Once the games have concluded, participants will have the opportunity to have a meet and greet with Canadian national team players.
