• • As part of PavCo’s efforts on reducing energy and resource consumption, the stadium’s rainwater harvesting pilot project is projected to save more than 950,000 litres per year of pristine drinking water from Metro Vancouver’s Regional System
  • Based on a detailed rainfall study, it is estimated approximately 40 million litres of rain falls on BC Place every year. Rainwater samples collected from the stadium’s roof were analyzed in a laboratory, and the test results concluded the rainwater was very pure, requiring minimal treatment or interventions to harvest, store and utilize for non-potable applications in the venue
  • The rainwater harvesting system leverages existing infrastructure such as the fabric roof and stormwater systems, while repurposing underutilized space in the stadium for tank storage.
  • The range of uses for the harvested rainwater includes non-potable water applications such as turf maintenance, toilet facilities, concourse and equipment cleaning, pressure washing, and more.

• • The new FieldTurf ‘Vertex CORE’ was selected in part for its international certifications for world class sport, as well as health, safety and environmental standards
  • FieldTurf makes use of product components and materials using closed-loop design thinking that respects the planet, resulting in a more sustainable product

• • PavCo donated a portion of the used artificial turf to the Abbotsford Cardinals baseball team located in the Fraser Valley, whose facilities and turf were lost to last year’s flooding
  • Re-using the turf at a community baseball facility is not only a win for the environment, but a win for a B.C. community in need
  • PavCo are also currently evaluating environmentally friendly and community-supporting options for the remainder of the used turf
